Sar Revision - Lip Augmentation - Dermabrasion

Scar Revision

Scar Revision | DetroitIf you would like to improve the appearance of a scar, then you may wish to consider scar revision. A finer, less obvious scar can be the result, depending on your own healing capabilities. Initially, a freshly revised scar looks quite satisfactory. Then it can become red and firm. Gradually it softens and becomes more pale than the adjacent skin. Occasionally, steroid injections into the scar or dermabrasion is used to further refine the area. With scar revision, you must realize that there is no complete removal of all traces of the scar, since the body can only heal by forming a scar. The improvement will not be complete for 12 months after surgery. Chronic acne scarring can be improved utilizing a variety of techniques. Deep indentations can be excised and finely sutured. Minor depressions can be treated with a soft filler injectable or dermabrasion. Large areas of scarring may be surgically planed by dermabrasion or laser resurfacing. Results of these procedures are variable, but often 30-50% improvement may be anticipated. Occasionally, more than one dermabrasion or laser resurfacing is beneficial.

Scar revisions are performed under local anesthesia in the office or in an outpatient surgical facility. Physical activity needs to be restricted for 3 to 5 days. Full activities and return to work is then possible. Sutures are removed 5-7 days following surgery.

Lip Augmentation

Full and vivacious lips have always been recognized as aesthetically important features. Some of us, however, are born with thin, ill-defined lips, or our lips lose their fullness with age. But the appearance of our lips is now within our control.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion, or skin planing, is used less frequently since laser peels were introduced. However, it is a reliable, effective method of improving lip and chin wrinkles and facial scars. Rough textured acne skin may also be improved with dermabrasion.

Dermabrasion removes the upper layers of skin with an electric burr. The skin is usually healed sufficiently by 7-10 days to allow the use of make-up and resumption of normal activities. However, it may take several weeks for complete skin healing. Similar to deep laser resurfacing, for several months after surgery, prolonged exposure to sunlight or severe cold should be avoided.

A consultation will provide you with a realistic appraisal as to what degree of improvement you can expect. While the results will vary, dermabrasion usually provides a pleasant improvement.
