Eyelid Surgery - Ear Surgery
Age brings changes to the eyes much as with other facial features. For instance, fatty pouches and loose skin can develop. Some of these changes may occur as soon as the late thirties. In some cases, skin of the upper eyelids may become so excessive that it can impair vision. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is designed to eliminate excessive skin and protruding bags in your upper and lower eyelids. Others may develop a drooping of the lower eyelid as a result of aging.
For blepharoplasty, incisions are placed in a skin crease of the upper lid and just below the eyelashes of the lower lid. After the bags are removed and skin is trimmed, the wound is meticulously repaired. Sometimes, the fatty pouches of the lower eyelid are treated through an incision inside the eyelid so no scar is visible (transconjunctival approach). After outpatient surgery, some swelling and bruising of the eyelids are evident. Sutures are usually dissolvable. For those times when permanent stitches are used, they will be removed between 3-5 days. Camouflage make-up can be used on the eyelids 24 hours following surgery, allowing return to work as soon as possible. After a week of non-stressful activities, you may resume a normal routine.

Ear Surgery (otoplasty)
Ears are ideally positioned close to the side of the head. Anyone with protruding ears knows the hurtful teasing they may provoke. Classroom teasing can be avoided by having corrective surgery before the age of seven, but it can be done at any age, including adults. Otoplasty is accomplished by making an incision behind the ear exposing the ear cartilage. The cartilage is carefully shaped using sutures to maintain the new contour and position of the ear. Other ear abnormalities, such as traumatic injuries and congenital deformities can also be corrected with surgery. In young children, a general anesthetic is used. In adults, local anesthetic is most often used. A turban-type bandage is used for a few days after surgery.
